Inspiration from Iman

On the morning of December 7, 2005, legendary fashion icon Iman served notice that beauty is indeed an inside job! As the keynote speaker for the Women Helping Women: ABreakfast Dedicated to Celebrating the Success of Women – a benefit to support Dress for Success New York’s Professional Women’s Group – www.dressforsuccess.org.

Still a stunning beauty at 50, Iman delivered a Perfect 10 Points of Inspiration, as she shared her story of fleeing from Somalia in the middle of the night with her family to escape her country’s emerging political revolution to arriving at the border of Kenya possessing only the clothes on their backs to her rise and role of helping to change the face of the fashion and modeling industry. While I was one of only four brothers in the packed room at the New York Athletic Club and her talk was specifically aimed at empowering women, I was fueled by what I am calling her Perfect 10 Points of Inspiration:

1. Always Know Your Worth:
   In life you will receive what you believe you deserve.
   
   
2. Be Comfortable In Your Own Skin:
   It empowers you when you accept who you are.
   
   
3. Celebration is the Key:
   Yes, life is a journey but be sure to make many celebratory stops along the way.
   
   
4. Validate Yourself First:
   God don’t make no junk!
   
   
5. If You Ask for Less – You’ll Get Less:
   In order to g-e-t you have to a-s-k.
   
   
6. Self-Respect:
   This is the fuel that will power you to your goals and dreams.
   
   
7. If You Want a Different Outcome, Change What You Are Currently Doing:
   How many different ways do we have hear that insanity is repeating the same things and expecting different results?
   
   
8. Change Helps You Find Your Calling:

Iman certainly reminded everyone in attendance at the Dress for Success benefit that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and how we behold ourselves makes all the difference in the world.
